The Paramount Arts Center offers a variety of programming. They truly have something that will appeal to everyone. Below are some brief descriptions of the types of events that they offer.
THE BROADWAY SERIES
The Broadway Series was established in 2001 after completion of the renovation to the stagehouse. The Paramount stage is now capable of holding any touring performance that does not require a trap stage floor. (So that means just about everything!) They select the best in national touring Broadway productions. The Series generally opens in August/September and runs through April/May. Don't miss our Broadway hits!
THE ENTERTAINMENT SERIES
The Entertainment Series was formerly known as The Subscription Series. But that was when they only had one series to offer! Now there are many. This series concentrates on headliner entertainment and you will find everything from concerts to dance companies to music of all genres such as classical, country, jazz, blues, and the hits of yesterday.
DISCOVERY SERIES
Their Discovery Series consists of interesting and exciting performances that audiences might not be as familiar with. Whether it be a symphony, the ballet, tribal dances, folk music, or another genre, they invite you to join them and discover something new!
THE YOUTH EDUCATION SERIES
The Paramount is devoted to the arts education format. 89% of Paramount sponsored events are geared toward education and we serve over 55,000 students in the tri-state each year through their youth programming and outreach events. They book the best in national touring companies that are directly involved in bringing arts education to students across the country. School curriculum is considered when making booking choices. Most of their productions provide Study Guides that assist the educator in getting the most out of the experiece possible. To learn more about their Youth programming, contact education@paramountartscenter.com.
FAMILY EVENTS
Family Events were very popular in the early days of the arts center. With the new stage capabilities brought about by the renovation, the Series returned in 2002. It is meant to bring arena-style events onto the Paramount stage so that families can enjoy viewing these great shows in the comfort of an intimate and safe setting.
WTCR'S HIGHWAY 23 JAMBOREE
This family-style event, modeled after the great Grand 'Ole Opry, quickly took off after its initial performance on March 6, 1999. The Jamboree, brainchild of Judy Jennings, was created as a unique format in which to pay homage to the vast number of musicians, singers and performers who have found fame in the entertainment world. So many of these great folks are natives to Ashland and the surrounding tri-state area that U.S. 23 has been dubbed the Country Music Highway! Usually featuring a headliner act, the Jamboree also serves as a showcase for the multitude of talents from the area. "They have brought the nostalgia back and at the same time attracted a larger audience to experience a true piece of Americana," said Judy Jennnings, who along with music impresario Ritch Collins created the Jamboree. Collins also serves as producer. Lasting approximately two hours, the performance is recorded live and aired the next weekend on WTCR.
RENTALS AND OTHER EVENTS
In addition to the above Series events, the Paramount is often used by national promoters to present concerts, plays, comics, lectures and performance events of every description. For information on renting the theatre, please contact cindyc@paramountartscenter.com.
PARAMOUNT JOE'S RISING STAR CAFÉ
Paramount Joe's Rising Star Café "where friends meet, mingle, and mix it up with music!" The Cafe' is generally staged every Friday night at 7 p.m.when they don't have a performance in the main theater. Named after their resident ghost, the Cafe' now offers flavored coffees, espresso, cappuccinos and other refreshments. Coffee mugs and t-shirts are available as well. Types of music and performers vary from week to week. For an updated schedule, check the event listings on this site or call the box office at 606-324-3175. If you are interested in performing at the Cafe', please contact Cindy Collins at cindyc@paramountartscenter.com. |
